Young People & Gang Violence…
At Haven Network we provide counselling and practical support for survivors of all types of abuse.
An issue in our local borough is the effect on young victims and their families of gang crime, be it violence that is physical, sexual or domestic.
In Waltham Forest, there are particularly high rates of crime and gang activity, due to 61 locations in our borough being amongst the most deprived in England and Wales.
Unsurprisingly, areas close to us, such as Cathall High Street, Leyton, Wood Street, Hoe Street, Leytonstone, Lea Bridge and Valley wards, are more susceptible to street crime, drug dealing.
These areas have a higher proportion of gangs.
If you or someone you know is affected by Waltham Forest gangs, we can help.
Gang Violence – Prevention Programme…
Crisis and counselling support for women and girls who are victims/survivors of abuse, sexual violence or rape at the hands of gangs in Waltham Forest.
The Haven supports the Waltham Forest Gang Prevention Programme by helping victims and survivors to move away from the gang environment and make healthy life choices.
Survivors are encouraged to take part in a 12-week counselling programme which will address the issues faced by the victim and/or their families in a holistic, non-judgemental, safe and confidential environment.
Gang Violence – Protecting Children…
A gang is a group of young people who see themselves (and are seen by others) as identifying with, or having control over a territory and engages in criminal and violent behaviour.
Gangs often have a hierarchy and provide surrogate father figures to young members, many of whom may have suffered sexual or domestic violence in their lives and suffer from low self-esteem.
This intra-gang dynamic can lead to further abuse/s and victimisation within the gang, especially for women and girls.
If you suspect that your child is associating with a gang or involved with gang violence, they may be at risk of harm.
We can support you.
