Steve, 45 – Male – Domestic Violence…
When I started my sessions at Haven I wasn’t too sure about how the process would work, but after sitting down with my counsellor I instantly felt at ease and was very happy to talk.
Having carried an episode (from my childhood years) around with me for over 35 years, I was nervous about discussing the subject.
However, my counsellor listened intently to everything I had to say without passing judgement.
She also helped me to explore how I viewed myself and this was a very eye-opening process.
Each week I would be welcomed on arrival and I never felt scared or anxious about my appointments.
As the weeks passed I discussed issues that had affected me for many years without realising it.
My counsellor was caring and helped me understand how I saw myself and this has made a significant difference in everything I do.
I appreciate myself more than I have ever done before and feel confident in moving forward and this is down to the support of Haven.
I have enjoyed my sessions at Haven and part of me will miss not returning but I have been given the tools to move on with my life!
The Haven Network is a vitally important organisation for victims of abuse and I thank them from the bottom of my heart!!!
Thank you!
